About Me
Hello, I am Patricia Knack. This website is Knack Life Adventures for multiple reasons. The first is being a Knack is part of who I have always been since birth, the advantage of ones parents deciding our last names. The second is the definition of "knack" defines who I am and strive to be. Knack is defined as "an acquired or natural skill at performing a task" and "a tendency to do something". With synonyms like ability, technique, instinct, aptness, skill, expertise and inclination to.
I am an alum of American University for a Master of Science in Taxation or MST and St. Bonaventure University for a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a concentration in accounting. As a student and an intern, I worked to develop an expertise and techniques to assist clients with the best tax advice and services in the futures. There is something to be said about discussing a topic with a client or colleague and being so intrigued to follow up with research. Everyone has a nerdy side if you find the right topic and for me it is tax. Sadly, my health started to deteriorate and the best next step for me was to take a step back from public accounting and more into a corporate role a bit ago. I moved on from my first corporate role to working for a software company that creates tax software! The first year was challenging, but I've learned a ton about myself and can't wait to continue to grow professionally.
In the last year, I was diagnosed with hEDS, or hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which in simple terms means I'm more flexible physically than I should be, with chronic pain, chronic exhaustion and since there is no cure, getting to learn to live with it. Although I have other diagnoses and health concerns, I'm trying to take one day at a time and move forward. Guess we will see how that goes as time goes on.
On a more personal happy note, I enjoy the outdoors and have developed a love for hiking. One summer after moving to Virginia, I joined Trail Crew at Great Falls National Park and can use my outdoor skills to assist with keeping the park maintained. Unfortunately, due to COVID we haven't been able to meet in a while but I'm looking forward to when we can return. Thanks to my parents and sisters growing up in 4-H developed a multitude of helpful life skills such as sewing, cooking, baking, crafts and even woodworking. Particularly, my preference these days is baking (when there is someone to help me eat the goodies) and Diamond Painting. A friend from our days in CYO-TAF has helped me get into the practice of them, unfortunately she has recently sold her business, but I've got plenty to keep me busy for a while.
Through my various journals, so you can pick the topics that interest you, but there may be some overlap, you'll get a chance to know a bit more about me. The career and educational journey I've been on, the activities I enjoy, and health both physical and mental how I try to keep myself sane. Keeping myself sane is no easy task, especially when life is throwing curveballs all to frequently in my opinion.
Although life will always have its challenges I am trying tackling each day with a positive outlook. There are very few thing I won't try at least once so if you want to try something new or you need a helping hand maybe we can figure out this crazy world together!
